Naming "Samudra Pasai"
When reading the profile of Muhammad Alfasi / محمد الفاسي came a big question mark in my mind, whether he had anything to do with the Pasai ocean, where people from Pasai (Lhokseumawe / Aceh Utara) were associated with "Alfasi".
But it turns out he is a Moroccan national, from the territory of الفاس (currently known as FEZ, as is the influence of French spelling).
From here, there seems to be a link between naming Samudra Pasai and the city of FEZ الفاس in Morocco.
Some historical evidence;
- FEZ was founded in the 8th century by the ruler of Idrisiyah, and FEZ was once the largest city in the world during the Almohad dynasty (1130-1269 AD)
- while the Islamic empire of Samudra Pasai was founded in 1267 AD
Therefore, it is possible that the name of "Pasai / Pasee is taken from Alfes (الفاس) as a prayer. Hopefully, Pasee will become a big city of cultural center and knowledge of Alfes at that time Kiban bak Guree Herman Syah & CS ??
