En los morichales del estado Guárico - La Peña, aguas tranquilas de color oscuro (parece té) rodeadas de palmas de moriche que pueden alcanzar hasta 10 mtrs de altura, esta especie de palmera habita principalmente en países del centro y norte de Suramérica como Bolivia, Brasil, Perú, Guyana, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela y Surinam.
