thoughts on money
People today think money will solve all their problems.
Because they're poor they assume this is the only thing getting them down. They fail to look past the money and the materials, assuming that once they conquer money they will be happy. The idea of gaining money stops people from looking into themselves, stops them from looking at other aspects of their life that may be bringing them down. When you're poor, and can't afford electricity, or food, it's hard to see past that. I know this. It's easy to think money will make you happier because you've never known what it is to have a lot of it.
And so, when people feel sad - they keep their mind focused on their next payday thinking "everything will be okay then". Then payday comes and goes, and before long you're counting down to your next payday. Living month-to-month by the tips of your fingers.
I get it, we all need money. It's thee most unfortunate thing about life, thee biggest culprit of war. But getting rich isn't going to make you a better person. It opens up doors and opportunities for you. But you can open up these doors without it. It's just more of a challenge.
Life should be about focusing on improving yourself, not focusing on improving your bank balance.
They're only numbers. The most impersonal thing in the world. It's all just maths.
I'm not saying forget about money, although I wish we all could. That's not really possible in our current society. What I'm saying is we need to stop making money our main thought pattern. I don't know how we can do this, I'm only having these thoughts as I type.We need to start thinking of other ways to get gratification, or for our whole lives we'll be stuck in the cycle "money = happiness". And we will never actually be in control of our own happiness. Because at the moment we're not in control of our happiness - businesses and banks are.
I get it, it feels good when you buy a new pair of shoes, or a can of energy juice, or go on holiday. But I want you to think about how long this happiness lasts. Because money does buy you happiness, but it's a very short-term happiness. And before you know it your shoes are just like any other pair of shoes. Before you know it you're addicted to energy juice. Before you know it you're back from your holiday and you're more unhappy than you were before you went away. I've seen it.
When you're feeling down, spend some time thinking about what it is that is actually making you feel that way. More than likely it isn't the most obvious answer. Despite popular belief, happiness really does come from within. No matter how much money we have, if we are not happy with who we are, we'll have a very difficult time trying to be happy.
Call up your granny.
Go for a walk in nature. Do something nice for someone. Learn a new skill. Share your emotions. Always try to better yourself. And cut all the negative sources out your life. They only hold you back.
Rinse and Repeat.
