You said your plan is to get to $1 Million net worth and live off the interest (4% or $40,000). Have you by chance read Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad Poor Dad? If not, I highly recommend it. I think it will help you get on a good path toward your goals. Although, it will make you look at money/investments a different way.
