This is how money works, kinda - A story told to me by a Ghost
A man walks into a hotel, he tells the receptionist - “Mam, I’m looking for a place to stay, but I would like to first see the place, If I fancy it, I will stay… could I go checkout the rooms please, I need to see the views?” - The receptionist replies - “Of course Sir, we just require your driver’s license and a $100 deposit, if you decide to stay we will use it towards your bill, if not, both get returned to you”.
“Very well” - replies the would be guest, and he walks off to explore the hotel at his leisure. The receptionist grabs the driver’s license and the $100 bill and stores it in her desk drawer safely.
Five minutes later a man walks through the front door smiling, the receptionist looks up, recognizes the man and says - “Mr. Robertson, I know we still owe you for the repairs to the AC unit, here…” - The receptionist open the desk drawer and hands over the $100 bill it contained to Mr. Robertson, he tips his hat to her in a friendly gesture and leaves the hotel lobby in a bit of a hurry.
It took about twenty minutes of driving before Mr. Robertson reached his office, he was getting ready to call the work day done, when someone knocked at the door. “Excuse me Mr. Robertson are you still here… it’s Mr Tipton, I’ve come to collect the money for the water bill as we agreed” - “Yes Mr. Tipton I happen to have the money on me at the moment, please come in, here you go, thank you for your patience with me this week, I had some outstanding invoices to still collect”.
“No problem Mr. Robertson, no problem at all, I will take my leave now if you don't mind, have to get home for supper” - Mr. Tipton left the office and headed back to the outskirts of town, back to his beloved home. He was driving by the Hotel that Mr. Robertson had just left when he remembered something himself. - “Yes… i’ll take care of this before I head home, it won’t take but a minute, might as well”.
The doors to the hotel opened and Mr. Tipton removing his hat greets the smiling receptionist. - “Hello there Margarita, I’ve brought the $100 deposit for the upcoming party this weekend” - “That’s lovely Mr. Tipton I have the documents ready for you to sign, and we will be all set”
A minute later Mr. Tipton was leaving the hotel with a note on his pocket, the receipt, and he was sporting a big smile as well, he had good news for his wife Martha after all.
Margarita, the efficient receptionist sees the guest from the beginning of our story walking down the stairs with a flustered face. - “Excuse me… yes I’ve decided I’m not staying here tonight, I found not one room with a view I like, you see, I need a good view or I can’t sleep, it’s just the way I am” - “No problem” replied Margarita, as she opened the drawer holding the $100 and the driver’s license - “Here you go Sir… I regret you won’t be staying with us tonight, but wish you a safe trip”
“Thank you miss…” - He leans in to read the name tag - “Margarita… yes.. Lovely name by the way. I wish you a pleasant evening as well, good bye”
End of the Story.

See if you were an entrepreneur your question would be:
I think I shall hang my Entrepreneur Hat before the real battle starts. I'm obviously leaving opportunities on the table. Silly me.
OMG, this is a twisted story, this is indeed a ghost money..hahahahhaha
Is this how money works?
That's the simple analogy of how many works....
From the story, all of them got paid, and here is why?
Mr. Robertson got paid for the service he rendered for the hotel.
Mr. Tipton also got paid for the service he rendered to Mr. Robertson
The receptionist paid the guest for their was no service rendered afterwards.
They all got paid, because they all own the mobey. But the biggest looser was the guest who does not get either value or interest on the money he paid, whereas others were able to move round the money and still get value for it. Smile
Everyone got paid, but... there was only $100 bucks... right? so... $300 where spent... yet, only $100 existed...
There lies the ghost!!! hahahahahah yes yes yes... good job
Hhaahhahah, let the search continues. I will monitor this post to the later to see the view of others too.
It is a thought provoking question. Smile
Nice one, @meno :-) Had me scratching my head there... But I think it's as follows: no one is scammed and the 100 dollar just changes ownership 3 times because of services rendered, it's payed forward, not accumulated (hence no need for 300 dollar). Everyone but the first man with the drivers licence ends up having nothing after having payed for the service and being payed for the service, they just lend the money from that first guy. He would have been scammed if the party would have been held in another hotel...
Right?
No?
Still head-scratching here... ;-)
Almost there.... hahahhha this is good, good for the brain!!
That goes to show that "time is money" - money was here used as a physical marker for the transfer of an invisible asset, "credit" or "trust". Yes, this is how money works, even cryptocurrency like that: it compensates insufficient "credit" and "trust" - I do something for you but I don't know if I can trust you to compensate me for what I've done. By giving me money you show me a measurable proof of trustworthiness. Money hence comes to compensate distrust.
N. Kiyotaki and John Moore have written a seminal article on this topic, called "Evil is the Root of all Money"
I would say that nobody got scammed, they all got what they wanted.
And having read the beautiful article of Kiyotaki and Moore and many others I have written an article on this topic myself:
Blockchain revolution: Money and Credit
Man are we becoming buds?.. this is great!! I'm gonna go read this.
This is called velocity of money and it is a very important feature of the economy. It gives more efficiency if used properly. So we dont yave to print so much. We can keep the rest hahaha.
The money comes from.... The printers haha. Not really... Now it is just a number in a computer. No need for printers lol. Money is created and given to the rich who enters in the economy if they decide to use it. But everyone seems to want to just power up lol. Then there is no velocity. They keep printing and rich are richer. But at some point they will use it.
Nobody is scammed... Except the poor who doesn't receive anything if there is no velocity.
I'm sure your brain doesn't hurt hehe. ;)
Cheers!
you've brought up some good points my friend... :)
This was a twisted one. I must confess I'm still confused. I think I need to set-up a mathematical equation for this one.
I did the work for you, its real simple look...
Haha.. thanks
Very good that story thanks for sharing
