Moldova between Russia and the EU. The West is repeating the same mistakes
On the 13th November 2016 Igor Dodon, the pro-Russian leader of the Socialist Party, became the president of Moldova. Why this happened? First of all due to widespread corruption of the pro-West political parties engulfed in a scandal about 1 billion € of funds from the EU that magically disappeared (they ended into their pockets) and second because the Free Trade Agreement with the EU brought more misery to the country despite claims of the pro-Western government that it would have led to a major boost of Moldova's economy, this is due to the fact that Moldova lost its biggest export market (Russia) but at same time it wasn't able to place its products on the European market mainly cause of competition and lack of interest. The consequent disapproval for the FTA with EU together with the desire of the majority of the population to have friendly ties with Russia led to Dodon's victory.
In the aftermath of the elections it was immediately clear that the EU/NATO didn't like the result as Maia Sandu, the adversary of Dodon in the presidential elections, decided to point to irregularities during the vote as the reason why she lost but this claim has been immediately rebuffed by PACE.
Dodon's commitment to maintain Moldova's military neutrality, in practice the decision to never choose between NATO and CSTO, is unacceptable for the Western elite; despite the popular vote clearly indicated that neutrality is Moldovans' favourite option they decided to force the country to continue its course towards the EU and NATO just like the elections never took place, this led to an upsurge of tensions; on the 30th of November NATO opened a liaison office in Chisinau, if this isn't a disrespect of the voters's will what is it?

Dodon is also in favour of a peaceful reintegration of the self-proclaimed republic of Transnistria, a region of Moldova that voted against the dissolution of the Soviet Union and then repeatedly voted in favour of being part of the Russian Federation, around 1000 Russian peacekeepers are present there to avoid the resumption of hostilities.
Dodon's plan for Transnistria's reintegration can be summarized in five proposals:
_ Moldova's neutrality
_ Special Status
_ Restoration of communication lines
_ Validity of the documents
_ Free movement of people.
In the picture the historical meeting between president Dodon and Transnistria's president Vadim Krasnoselskij, the first in 8 years, that took place on the 4th of January 2017, where they discussed about the above proposals; NATO/US is against the first one (which it's considered the most important by Transnistria's authorities in order to start talks to reach a compromise) because it would mean that the country cannot be dragged into the empire, this impedes the implementation of the other four.
But Dodon really crossed West's red line in three occasions: when on his request Moldova received the status of observer into Russia's Eurasian Economic Union (https://t.co/cCmxMbdqdA), when he vetoed the participation of Moldova's troops to NATO drills (https://t.co/bU4beonmYA) and his presence as honour guest to Russia's Victory Day celebration on the 9th of May.
This event marked the beginning of the escalation against him, Moldova's government expelled five Russian diplomats at the end of May and in June the country received anti-propaganda funds from the US which it's a way to futher destabilize the country and prepare the ground for a regime change, in August the govt declared also Russia's Deputy PM Rogozin as "persona non-grata".
Later after the Pentagon announced the decision to establish 8 new military training installations for operations in urban terrain at the Bulboaca base (https://sputniknews.com/world/201708081056279924-us-moldova-expansion-plans/), Dodon immediately commented: "I consider it as yet another provocation of the Moldovan government. The construction of military facilities should be approved by the country's president, who is also the supreme commander. This issue has not been agreed with us. We will look into the issue".
The US has already invested $1.6 million in the renovation of the Bulboaca base which is located not far from Tiraspol, so this installation may be employed to train Moldovan saboteurs and special forces for a new conflict with Transnistria. The ultimate provocation was the decision of the Moldovan Constitutional Court (entirely composed of Romanian judges) to strip Dodon of his veto power.
This is a clear sign that the West wants to overthrow Dodon in a way or another possibly before the next parliamentary elections (https://t.co/2JKLRUuCl6), these are the wise words of the president on the current situation in his country: "Parliament and government know that I will never sign any laws or decrees geared to worsen relations with Russia. At the presidential elections Moldova's people gave me a mandate to restore strategic partnership with Moscow and I will never drop this course, we know that certain circles in the West are preparing provocations against Transnistria. These circles seek to create another hotbed of tensions near Russia, ruling pro-EU coalition continues the anti-Russian campaign to enroll support from Western elite that don't want to see Moldova getting closer to Russia, to provoke my supporters into street confrontation, it is necessary to show restraint, not succumb to provocations.".
I end this post with the link to an interview to the Moldova specialist and expert of the International Institute of Humanitarian and Political Studies Vladimir Bruter where he describes what could happen in the next months in Moldova.
