[SteeMagazin]^UFC >> Isreal Adesanya and Dustin Poirier have become new UFC champions
Good evening Steemians! Although we're a little bit late with this article it would be unfair to not cover this spectacular event. Check down below!
On 13th of April we officialy got two new UFC interim champions! Isreal Adesanya has successfully beaten his hardest opponent yet - Kelvin Gastelum and he extended his record to impressive 17-0-0. In the other fight Dustin Poirier has stopped Max Holloway and broke his 13 fight win streak which was also fourth longest win streak in the history of UFC. Let start with the first fight.
Isreal Adesanya vs. Kelvin Gastelum
After an even first round in which both fighters showed why they are here, Adesanya countered Gastelum with his right and gained his confidence back. He clearly won the second round and was able to defend against highly ranked wrestler that Gastelum is in round 3. It appeared that Adesanya was up on the scorecards after first three rounds so Gastelum remained persistant in his offensive game and managed to hurt Adesanya in fourth. In round five Gastelum went all out and tried to finish this fight with a takedown but he eventually got tired and Adesanya used this to his advantage. "The Last Stylebender" has landed some serious punches which dropped Gastelum just minute before the end of the fight. Until the bell ringed Adesanya has managed to land one big elbow and beat Gastelum some more with ground-and-pound. It turned out that this final round was a decisive one as adesanya won the fight with 48-46, 48-46, 48-46 by referees decision.
Everyone who doubted Isreal Adesanya before this fight are now becoming his biggest fans. This incredible young fighter has quickly turned into one of the UFC's hottest prospects. After fighting with three top 15 contenders - Derek Brunson, Anderson Silva and Kelvin Gastelum he still remained unbeaten and now there is only one challenge for him and that is current champion Robert Whittaker. This fight is probably going to happen before the end of this year and we just can't wait to see what happens.
Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier
Amazing peformance by Dustin Poirier and his second win against Max Holloway that broke his unreal 13 fights win streak. Dustin Poirier went pretty offensive since the beginning of the fight and he didn't let Max play his usual game. Dustin chopped Holloway's legs through whole fight and after five rounds referees scored this contest 49-46, 49-46 and 49-46 for the winner Dustin Poirier. 'The Diamond' has successfully extended his record to 25-5-1 and is now waiting for Khabib to get back into the octagon. Khabib's suspension ends in September and we hope that this could be the month where we'll see a battle for undisputed champion of Lightweight category.
