The mission of Jesus: But also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one
The Gospel of John tells us that before his triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the last supper, our Lord Jesus makes an extraordinary sign. Jesus brings his friend Lazarus back to life and shows that he is the "resurrection and the life", this miracle that Jesus does is to show that he is the one sent by the Father, and that he comes with the spiritual mission to save humanity from their sins and to gather the children of God in the unity of the Church. The Kingdom of Heaven, is manifested with glory among men, Jesus is the "son of man". But Jesus is also a spiritual leader and must face the oppression of his enemies. Jesus shows us with his example that religion and spirituality are different things. Many, faced with the miracles of Jesus, decide to believe, but others see this as a danger because the Roman Empire was greatly feared, roman soldiers were known for cruelly punishing their enemies, and the memory of the deportations had not been forgotten. It is thus that powerful men begin to conspire against Jesus.
This is how the Gospel of John tells us about the conspiracy against Jesus after the miracle done with Lazarus:
"But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin.
´What are we accomplishing?´ they asked. ´Here is this man performing many signs. If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.´
Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, ´You know nothing at all! You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.´
He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one. So from that day on they plotted to take his life" John 11:46-53.
