If you're reading this and you're a newbie, you're welcome to the greatest social network on earth.

I have a quick $0.5 gift for 10 newbies. To find out how to get it, read this post till the end.

WHAT IS STEEMIT?

Steemit.com is a social network like Facebook and Twitter but pays you when you post and get likes (upvote). Steemit works on Steem Blockchain (public ledger).

This Blockchain is managed by a set of people called STEEM WITNESSES. There are over 50 STEEM WITNESS and every steemian can only vote a maximum of 30 witness.

your first step on Steemit

The first thing you need to do on Steemit.com as a newbie is to write an "INTRODUCEYOURSELF" post. This post signals the community that there is a newbie in the house and this could attract some good payouts on your post.

Here is a good example by @phait below. He did a good "INTRODUCEYOURSELF" POST and got $15+. ( Facebook won't do that for you)

how to make an introduceyourself post.

Making an "introduceyourself" post is very easy. All you need do is just to Tell the community about you, your name, Where you're from, Who told you about Steemit, your hobby, your best food etc. Just be interesting.

The main ingredient that makes your post an "introduceyourself" post is the addition of "introduceyourself" to your tag as seen below.

You can also add other tags to your post to make your post reach more people.

please note that your tag should be related to what you're writing about

Don't get distracted

I've seen some new steemian frown at other steemians when their long post make less more money than some really short post.

First of all Steemit is a not a "competition social network". You're in a competition with nobody. Don't get negatively distracted by other people's payouts, rather get positively distracted by reading their post and finding out what they did that you didn't do.

Maybe you didn't add pictures that are related to your post, or you didn't reference your pictures or you wrote something outdated etc.

You don't get max payout from long or short post, you get max payout when your post is meaningful to those reading it.

scenario:
If Mr X loves cake and his voting power is worth $2 and you post about cake, if he's online at that time,he'll likely upvote, but if he's not, you won't get his vote.

Avoid Spamming and Plagiarism

Plagiarism and spamming are the two most frowned act here on Steemit.com. It's better not to post or comment at all than to copy the same comments to several people (spamming) and using someone else's work without referencing or quoting (plagiarism)

how to reference a picture

To reference a picture, all you you need do is
Either write the source like this one done by @gee1

or

Use the format below

So basically the visible part should be in [image source] and the link should be in (website.com).

how to quote text

this is just an example of how to quote a text, word or sentence. the greater than sign (>) is the key ingredient

how payments are made on Steemit

The payout on every post is on the 7th day. Below is a screenshot of expected payout on a post made by @tojukaka
IMG_20170821_161915.jpg

Whatever @tojukaka makes in that post will be divided into two (75% and 25%).

  1. 75% will be given to @tojukaka
  2. 25% will be shared amongst everyone who upvoted @tojukaka, base on their voting power.

It doesn't end their. That 75% given to @tojukaka will be further divided into two (50%:50%)

  1. 50% will be given to him in STEEM DOLLARS
  2. 50% will be given to him in STEEM POWER.

be consistent

The key to succeeding on Steemit is through consistency, the willingness for you to improve on your writing skills, socializing with other minnows and whales.

Don't be a begging steemian. Don't beg for upvote, if your work deserves to be upvoted by the reader, you'll be upvoted.

Be grateful when another steemian sends you a tip and only resteem post that you think is meaningful and helpful to others.

FREE $0.5 FOR newbie

I'll be giving free $0.5 to to 10 new steemians. All you need do to win is

  1. upvote and resteem this post so other newbies can benefit.

  2. Send a screenshot of your "introduceyourself" post as comment

rule:

  • your reputation should be between 25 and 31
  • those with low payout on their "introduceyourself post" stand a higher chance of winning, as long as your post has no atom of plagiarism in it.
  • if you've not made an *introduceyourself post", just upvote, resteem and drop a comment saying "upvoted and resteemed" to participate.
