Helpful Tips for New Steemians: How to Join the Minnow Support Project and the PALnet Discord Group...Plus Tips for Using Discord.
When you first join Steemit it can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you don’t know anyone else on the Platform.
At the end of each of my posts I always put a tag about The Minnow Support Project (MSP) and the link to join our Discord Group.
I’ve had several comments from new users asking what MSP is and even what Discord is so I wanted to make another post to clarify and help these new Steemians.
Discord
Discord is simply a chat service. It's a wonderful way to make connections and build friendships with other Steemians.
Here’s a list of some great Discord Groups for you to check out:

Minnow Support Project and the Palnet Discord
If you are a new user I highly recommend joining the Minnow Support Palnet Discord.
PALnet is the Minnow Support Discord group where you can go to get help, ask for advice, socialize, and get to know your fellow Steemians. This will help you grow, create better content, and help the entire Steemit platform improve.
Another great benefit is that when you register with PALnet, you will get access to 2 upvote bots that you can utilize for any post that you want.
Click Here to join the Minnow Support PALnet Discord Group
When you enter the group you will see a list of channels on the left.
The top channel is “start-here”. Click on that and you will see links that explain the process of registration. If you need help, just enter the “general-noposting” channel and ask for a mod’s assistance.
We now have over 4200 members so there is always someone chatting in the general channel.
Delegation
There is also an option to delegate SP to the Minnow Support Project.
If you delegate anything between 10-99 SP to either Minnow Support or the msp-shanehug then you will receive upvotes from the msp-shanehug bot.
If you delegate 100 SP or more to any of the Minnow Support bots then you will get added to the msp-lovebot which has a higher SP delegation and you will receive upvotes on every future post you make.
The more you delegate, the higher the upvote percentage will be.
Some Advice Regarding Discord:
Each Discord Group has their own set of channels where you can promote your posts.
They are listed on the left.
Don’t use the general chat to post your links. Read through the channels on the left and choose the appropriate channel.
It is unlikely that you will receive any upvotes by simply dropping your link in a channel then leaving discord.
Just like in real life, you need to build relationships with people and do a bit of networking.
A wonderful by-product of doing this is that you will actually meet some great, funny people, and actually make some new friends!
I personally need to take my own advice here. I spend most of my free time working on music or eating Cheez-its and then before I know it, it’s 2AM and I pass out.
I’m currently in the process of creating a clone in order to rectify this situation.
Until then, I have requested that my cat Snibby help out, but he is busy staring at the wall right now.
More Advice Regarding Discord Etiquette:
- Don’t private message people you don’t know and spam your links.
- Don’t go into the general chat and ask well known Steemians to upvote and reseteem your post if you don’t actually know them.
- Don’t expect anyone to upvote your posts if all you do is go into the general chat and ask people to upvote without chatting or getting to know people.
- Use your Steemit user name in Discord so people can easily find you and follow you on Steemit.
@aggroed, @ausbitbank, @someguy123, @teamsteem, @thecryptodrive, @theprophet0, @followbtcnews, @neoxian, @netuoso, @reggaemuffin, @drakos, and my personal favorite @swelker101 (The Husband).

I'm sorry I missed the last music compilation post, I don't know how I missed that!!!
I scrolled through your page yesterday and found it and made a comment so I don't know if you saw it.
The Minnow Support Project started their own radio show in the Discord Channel and I was wondering if I could play the music from the compilation to promote it during my radio show. Would that be ok?
Go Minnows! We need you. Without minnows no steemit
Thanks for Share :)

very helpful post...what's LFN?
Thank you!
LFN is Looking for Niche which was created by @rawbinhutt and it helps people find other users with similar interests.
From @rawbinhutt:
"Looking For Niche is a community and a tool that connects you with like-minded people based on your favorite tags.
You sign up to a tag by our "WhaleBoT". When someone else signs up for the same tag, you two are introduced, allowing you to check out each others posts, collaborate and maybe even form your own niche community."
