I have done the same thing every day I have been around Steemit (all of 2 weeks now) and tried to find two or three folks from the new intros to say hi to and welcome to Steemit.
Starting out when you know no one here (which was/is me) is daunting. So the #introduceyourself feed is a good place to practice some "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and lend a welcome.
Love it @armadilloman. What you are doing really makes this Platform that much stronger, imo
