cast-xmr-vega dropping 300 H after running for 10-30 minutes? Finally found solution

in #mining7 years ago

If your like me, my vega 56 starts mining with cast-xmr-vega at ~1950 H/s. After an hour or less, it would always drop to ~1650 H/s. I tried everything to fix this. Reinstalling windows, drivers, switching driver, setting low target temperatures and maxing out my fan to no avail.

The real problem? Windows was putting my monitor to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity. Now, my headless miner has no monitor, but the setting was enabled all the same. Go to your windows power saver settings, set it to performance. Then, go to the monitor settings and set it to never go to sleep. Restart cast-xmr-vega and enjoy your ~2k H/s on XMR

I wonder is this the same for all types of cards including nvidia? That when the monitor goes to sleep the hash rates drop. BTW 2k H/s per a card sounds amazing! Just do not know if its worth $400 to buy. Why not go with more rx580s instead.
