minimizing toys = happier kids

For the past 6 months or so, we have been slowly working towards minimalism.

The end goal is to sell our "in town" house and downsize to a smaller, more rural house with land.

Toys seemed to be the easiest place to start.
Between birthdays & Christmas gatherings (4 kids, 5 Christmas gatherings each year)... Toys add up.

At first we just took the majority of the lesser usedyplayed with toys to the basement.
Then i did a more thorough sweep.
Our two oldest daughters understand why we are minimising and are usually helpful with the process.

We've narrowed it down to the wooden play kitchen, dress up, Breyer/toy horses, Magnatiles (worth the investment!), pearler beads, & of course crafting supplies.
The two oldest have an American Girl Doll each (new to them as of Christmas) with a few accessories.
The two youngest just got the Grimm's 12pc Stacking Rainbow for their shared birthday.
Ordered from Bella Luna Toys

EVERYONE loves playing with it. Its handcrafted from one trunk piece, dyed with child safe water based dyes. I love that the natural wood grain shows through!
It's a bit pricey, but very well made, sturdy, and worth the investment.

Of course during the warm & sunny days, the kids are playing outside in the dirt!

What can you minimize in your home?

5 Christmas’s?! That is a lot and a lot of toys! That rainbow toy looks really cool though! Yesterday I worked some on just getting rid of things I’ve been delaying on tossing out. I still have more to go tomorrow.

Yep! Here at home with just us. Then one with just my husband's parents & sister. One with my parents. One at his grandmothers with aunts/uncles/cousins. Then one with my side of the family.

This year we asked for "experiences". We got a year dual membership to the zoo & science center!

My "toss" items end up sitting in my van for weeks, haha! But at least they are out of my house!
