Middle of the world, Quito. Ecuador

When talking about Ecuador, most tourists associate it with the "Middle of the World", because the country owes its name to what is located on the equatorial line, which divides the planet into two hemispheres: north and south.

The Middle City of the World is the most visited place by tourists who go to Ecuador, it is located in the parish of San Antonio in the Metropolitan District of Quito, 13.5 kilometers from the Ecuadorian capital.
In 1936 a 10 meter high tower was built in this place, in honor of the French geodesic mission that 200 years earlier had placed the 0 ° 0 '0 latitude in these lands, when they came to test the polar flattening and the equatorial widening from the earth.

The tower was until 1979, when it was decided to make a larger monument, 30 meters high, which is what is currently and is the first attraction of the park, with a terrace with 360º view and an ethnographic museum inside.

The Middle City of the World receives around 500,000 visitors per year. Tourists, locals and foreigners, in addition to climbing the main tower, can tour the train station, which tells the history of railroads in Ecuador; ancestral dwellings, for each region of the country; a pavilion that exhibits the works of Oswaldo Guayasamín, the most outstanding painter, draftsman, sculptor and muralist in Ecuador.
