Why Spiders are Not Insects

Sometimes, when we see a tiny bug crawling, we think it's an insect. However, some creatures look like insects but are not. Spiders are a good example. They look like insects but are not truly insects. Spiders have eight legs, while insects only have six. Also, spiders have two main body parts, unlike insects that have three.

Insects can be found almost everywhere. If you lift a log or a rock, you might see ants or beetles underneath. Cockroaches and earwigs often hide in dirt or under logs. Some live close to water, especially around ponds and streams. When you visit a lake, you may see dragonflies flying, mosquitoes buzzing around, or small beetles swimming nearby.

Many insects live on plants and flowers. Bees, butterflies, and wasps move from flower to flower, spreading pollen as they go. Grasshoppers also stay among plants. Some insects even live on animals. Fleas are common on pets like dogs and cats. Lice may be found in human hair.
