Another metro rail from the airport to Kamalapur

In addition to the project implemented from Uttara to Motijheel, the government has taken an initiative to introduce a more metro rail service from the airport to Kamalapur by connecting the eastern region to make the transportation system more safer, modern and environmentally friendly.

Road Transport and Bridge Ministry has planned to construct a 27-kilometer long metro rail service called MRT-I, Kamalapur, Bhaya Purbachal New Town, from the airport.

A senior Planning Commission official said that the Planning Commission has already received proposals from the Road Transport and Bridge Ministry to design the proposed line of implementation of the mega project at a cost of Taka 710 crore.

The official said that the Dhaka Public Transport Company Limited will implement the project by December 2021. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will give loan of Tk 450 billion.

An official of the concerned ministry said to the news agency, the increase in traffic and traffic in the capital is increasing in the capital. In 2013, the number of vehicles registered in the city was 95,400. In 2001, the number was 20 thousand five hundred.

The government has approved the Revised Transportation Plan (RSTP) on August 29, 2016 to tackle this situation. It recommended to build 5 MRT lines and 2 BRT line networks.

The proposed route is at the airport - Khilkhet, Newbazar-Badda, Malibag-Kamlapur and the other route is Jamuna Future Park - Bashundhara-Purbachal. For this 27 kilometer route, Dhaka Public Transport Company will be consulting company.
The pre-evaluation committee (PEC) meeting of the proposed project has been held. With the inclusion of some recommendations of the Planning Commission, the project will be submitted for consideration of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated on June 26, 2016, with the help of JICA Metro Rail Project (MRT-6). This mega project of 21 thousand 985 crore rupees will be opened from December 3 to Agargaon in December 2019 and Bangladesh Bank in December 2020.

This project will have 16 stations and 28 sets of trains will operate.
