Concerned about privacy issues with FB messenger? The decentralized Matrix-protocol (https://matrix.org/) might be a solution.
A client solution based on this is available for Android, iOS, Mac and Windows via their respective app stores. Look for "Element Messenger" app for your device, or use it via web browser. (Look it up at https://element.io/ page.)
