Let's See How Far Can You Remember: Let's Dig Your Memory!

in #memory7 years ago (edited)

Digging my memories when I was a kid came to my thoughts from an incident when I was talking to my Son and asked him if he still remember the day we brought him in one of the amusement park when he was very young. At the age of 5 turning 6, Zanji couldn't remember anything happened to him from his 1 to 4 years old moments. I wonder if how far can our memories brings us back to our childhood days. Will Zanji still remember some of the things right now when he grow up?

I surf the net to find answers about until what age can an adult remember from their childhood days. And as per the article I've read, at the age 3, when you are small you can still remember some things but when you grow up, those memories will fade away by the age of 7. The loss of those memories are called the "childhood amnesia".

Childhood amnesia, also called infantile amnesia, is the inability of adults to retrieve episodic memories (memories of situations or events) before the age of 2–4 years, as well as the period before age 10 of which adults retain fewer memories than might otherwise be expected given the passage of time. Do you know the animated movie entitled "Inside Out" it was about the emotions of one human. Me and my son enjoyed watching it. In this movie, the character named Riley has 5 basic emotions such as Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger. She has a core memories that serves as her foundation in her personality. Those memories can never be forgotten. This is also one of the reason why I love to search within my memories and try to measure how far and what events can I still remember at this age of mine. By the way, I am 26 years old now and let me share you what I can still remember on my childhood days.

I'm Flying!!!

My grandfather used to fixed broken umbrellas when he was still alive. When I was young, he gave me a red umbrella that he sorted out of the broken umbrellas pieces and made a new one. I used that every time I go to school. I was 5 years old and at kindergarten that time and my schedule was in the morning. It was only 2 hours class and my Mom always fetch me in the school. I can still remember this incident when the sun was shining brightly and very hot, I opened my umbrella but I was so thin that time and suddenly the wind blows and I was took by the wind and felt that I'm almost flying. My Mom laughed so hard until we reached our home and she tell it to everyone in the house! That was one of funny and embarrassing moment of my life!!!

I'm Not a Coloring Book!!

Another 5 year old moment I can't forget was that night with my cousin. I was sitting beside her in the living room of my grandparents house. She was busy with something and so am I. Suddenly I caught her attention when she find me coloring something. She was really surprised that I was putting some arts to my half sized short bond paper who happened to be my kindergarten certificate. Well, I was so young that time and I don't know the importance of that piece of paper. I got scolded by my cousin and I don't know anymore where did that certificate go.

Focus Kid!!!

My grandfather was very strict, I rarely see him smile. I was scared of him. I remember he helped me memorized my graduation speech when I was kindergarten. Who won't get scared if he's holding a stick and every time I forget the lines he would spanked it in table. I was crying but I did memorized my speech and I owe it to him though he scared me bigtime!

Most of the moments that I can still remember at this age are all about my kindergarten memories. I was 5 years old that time and that was the farthest my memory can dig. I don't know when these memories will fade but I will keep it for as long as I can. Memories are treasure!

How about you? What are the childhood moments you can still remember until now?

In saying that, there are people who don't have childhood amnesia. Some can even remember their past lives.

Indeed Tita. But not all of those memories can be retained I guess. Can you still remember specific event Tita way back nung kindergarten class nyo po?

People who doesn't have this so called childhood amnesia may really have a very good memory! That's so amazing!

Meron kami parada, gamet 3 & 2 wheelers..with matching flowers sa gilid-gilid.
Our 1st christmas carol happened like we were just singing under my bff's parents' window when her dad started dropping coins. We decided to go to our kindergarten teacher's house and sang carols. Afterwards, we went to buy candies at her store. Her house was opposite our house, west side🤣🤣🤣

Naks Tita! Very sharp pa din ang memory :)

Meron po, paisa-isa.

I was maybe 3 or 4 when I broke the toy refrigerator my sister got for Christmas. I broke it just right after she opened it that Christmas night. Although, I don't remember her getting mad at me. I still remember how I felt that night. How cold a Christmas night in Baguio was, the scent of the fresh pine tree they cut to put inside the house, and the smell of the Ilocano dishes we had that night.

Awww. You must really feeling sorry that's why you can't forget that incident. That surely made you scared. You live in Baguio when your young? or you just visited that place?

My father is from Ilocos but grew up in Baguio. His mother owned a restaurant and his father was a policeman in Baguio.

Oh I see. That's so amazing! You can visit Baguio anytime and worry less for the place to stay when you visit the place :)

Hi..where from ilocos?

From Sto Domingo, Ilocos Sur. But, now he lives with his partner in Candon. I assume you are from Ilocos too?

We are..near Vigan.

Very nice place! I love empanada, but I only eat them when in Vigan. My father visited today all the way from Candon. (I'm based in Cavite now). He brought some goodies from Marsha's delicacies. 😊

This is the first time I've heard of Childhood Amnesia but it explains a lot of things. Brilliant post! It is featured in Bayanihan's 20th Philippines' Curation Update. Upvoted 100%!
