Sometimes as Men: Reflections on Wildness
Sometimes as Men , we have to step away from the world and eat mushrooms and honey in the garden.
Sometimes as Men, we must learn to stick to low places, stay in the dark and wet.
Sometimes as Men, we must learn to be taken down to grief.
Sometimes as Men, we must swing a Sword to cut what's unessecary and ill away from what contains life.
Sometimes as Men, we must learn to be wrong, and admit it.
Sometimes as Men, we must learn to stand for an Authority beyond ourselves.
Sometimes as Men, we must lead by being the first to suffer.
Sometimes as Men, we must pretend to be less Wild than we are.
We may cover up our scent, comb our hair, and speak in eloquent words.
But do not mistake a Thunderstorm in a suit , for our fathers generation.
Do not discount for a moment the raw intensity, the savagery ,the deep instinctual male that lives and breaths.
They may have put us in ties and cubicles , they may have channeled our Wildness into violence, they may have taken our sensitivity from us.
But they can never contain this, for at the heart of each of us is the same force which has led humanity upwards through millennia of evolution.
This Life breaks forth, this Life shatters resistance like rivers erode mountains.
They may build a city of concrete,
But you cannot keep the Hunter in chains for long.
You cannot keep he whom lays with beasts tame.
You may change your scent and sit in that desk, but one day the Wolves will call.
And we can lose our lives and gain our soul.
