Scientific Consequences

  1. Will the issue promote basic scientific research?

Yes, it will as a lot of things will need to be taken into consideration. How people living there will breath, what they will eat. How seeds can be grown on mars. how air and water can be recycled. How new generations will be born.

  1. What is the fundamental science upon which this issue is based?

The Mars has shown a lot of promise as a place where humans can live. The satellite images have shown that there used to be water on Mars and if colonized properly, humans can potentially find a way to live there. Also, it is a logical distance away as it takes few years to reach.

  1. What scientific information, if any, might change your view on this issue?

The air in Mars is somehow harmful to humans. The planet Mars is in danger of collapsing.

Positively, if we found running water or bacteria on Mars, that will be very beneficial for the project and prove life might be able to sustain using mar’s resources.

Ethical Consequences

  1. What individual rights might be violated?

Some volunteers who want to go there might want to come back to Earth. While it is possible, but a lot of reasons would prevent us from doing so, mainly financial reasons. I get limited funding and I need to allocate funds smartly so I can sustain people living there.

Rights Violated: (not sure about these, just thought of it myself)

  • Right to live where you want
  • Right to choose the way you want to live
  1. How does it produce the maximum good?

The world is being impacted with a lot of negative factors. The climate is degrading and terrorism has been increasing. In case of a global catastrophe, such as a Nuclear War, we need another place where humanity can continue to strive.

  1. How does it promote the common good?

The time when it comes may not be in our life time but by thinking about the future of generations ahead we are doing the right thing for them. World is going to end one day (one way or another) and a way out is thus desirable. If start research now, it will be perfected by the time, the earth will collapse

  1. What are the related ethical issues?

If people are being sent to Mars, who will go with create a great ethical problem. Based on the current ideologies, educated and rich people would be preferred as we won’t have resources to take all people.

  1. Does the issue/technology promote illegal activity?

Yes, it might. Related to above topic, to be given a chance to go to mars, people might start faking their identity or become violent due to anger of not being selected.

Environmental Consequences

  1. How does it affect our environment in the short term?

The resources from our environment would need to be sent to Mars in order to colonize. This will result in an initial great impact on our environment.

  1. How does it affect our environment in the long term?

The positive impact of colonizing mars would be that if a lot of people are living there and become self sustain (grow plants, seeds there only), then damage done to environment and environmental resource usage would decrease.

Social Consequences

  1. Who are the stakeholders? Who will benefit?

The stakeholders would be the government initially. I am mainly a government supported organization and they would the stakeholders in it.

It will be beneficial for the whole mankind if are able to colonize another planet as there would now be an escape place in case a global catastrophe occurs.

  1. What cultures could be affected? What ethnic groups could be affected?

This project should remain separate of all cultures and ethnicities but it might still impact a group of people. There are group of people who believe we should only live on earth and just let mankind end with its due course. Also, some people believe its dangerous to colonize another planet. These religions/organizations would be affected as it is something against what they believe but in general it should be of interest to almost everyone.

  1. How are different groups of people affected?

Most people would remain unaffected by this project and its progress but would just be amazed but it. But another group of people be part of it and make a great commitment by putting their life on line with this ambitious project. Also, another group of people would desire to be a part of this project and thus work hard in their fields to reach that point.

  1. What portions of society does it bring together, and what portions does it divide?

When it finally is the time to decide who goes and who stays (in global catastrophe), it will divide the public. Logically, younger crowd with different abilities would be preferred but people who can’t be part of the group would be angry at this project and might show their displeasure with violence.

  1. What effects will it have on lifestyle and living conditions?

The living conditions on earth would remain the same but people who decide to live on Mars would have to adjust to a lot. They wouldn’t be able to waste food and afford great delicacies. They would be limited in facilities available to them and how they get to live. (Can’t make money, and buy a bigger house.) Everyone would generally be in same position and if there are different levels, it would be hard to rise.

Economic Consequences

  1. Is it desirable or undesirable on any of these scales: global, country, region, company, immediate neighbors, people in general?

It is desirable for everyone as it is for the benefit of mankind. We are trying to create another place where humans can live and potentially escape to if a catastrophe occurs. That benefits not only me you, or my city, it helps everyone.

  1. What is the impact on employment or economic stability?

It will create a lot more jobs as there would be spacecrafts going to and from Mars. Manufacturing, maintenance extra of them to the smallest part will create more jobs. Also, getting resources, packing, etc. these will also create jobs. More jobs, mean more financially stable people = more financial stable country.

  1. How will it affect the cultural, ethnic and/or economic divides?

It should not be biased in sense of job it creates. It will create jobs from very educated technical people to farmers, woodcutters, etc. So, overall, jobs will be created in many fields and would benefit lower, medium and high income group people.

Personal Consequences

  1. How does it affect you in the short term?

I will have to look for people from different fields who are interested to go to mars. Also, get more funding from the government to ensure project runs successfully and doesn’t fail or expose danger to people due to money.

I will also need to get contract with different manufactures in a high scale to produce goods to export to mars.

  1. How does it affect you in the long term?

If this project is successful, I would be able to get more funding from government and make this project much more perfect. Example, send people on regular basis to mars to colonize, create a whole new market of jobs, and save mankind in future.
