Ice Bath Recovery
I'm sure many of you will have heard of the concept of an ice bath to aid recovery after high intensity training. The use of exposing our body to different extreme temperatures in order to treat muscle soreness and prevent injury is called cryotherapy. It's application is huge in the professional sporting industry, with rugby players especially using the treatment a great deal to aid their recovery. I'm not going to delve into the science behind cryotherapy, because I'm not an expert on sports science and I know very little about it. But I know professional athletes use the treatment to treat muscle soreness. So if it's good enough for them...
So I thought a small dose of personal cryotherapy would be a good one to document which viewers would find amusing.
Short story is- I'm running in my first marathon this Sunday (8th Oct) at the Yorkshire Marathon, UK, so I had intended to take training very lightly this week. On Thursday evening however, the football team I play for (That's 'soccer' for many of you...), were a player a short and would have had to forfeit the game if they couldn't acquire a player. So I reluctantly stepped into the breach.
The end result meant that I had given my calves and hamstrings an intense workout just three days before the marathon.
Drastic measures were thus required.
Cue the ice bath.
So please enjoy the video of my ice bath, with thanks to my friend @tomasgeorge for documenting the saga.
Here goes nothing.
FYI - calves and hamstrings felt great the next day.
Bring on the marathon!
Too funny!!
Hahaha!!! Yes, This is my hidden weapon for recovery as welll!
Good video!
Keep on running!
