SLC26-W2 | Churros
As a newcomer to steemit, I am so delighted to be a part of this week 2 churros learning challenge. I am so thrilled to do this as my very first challenge being something that has to do with area of pastry and confectionery.
Make your own churros (include ingredients, quantities and step by step instructions) with my recipe or any other of your choice.
Ingredients
1 cup of all purpose flour
2 tablespoons of margarine
1 egg
1 cup of water
1/2 tablespoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
A pinch of salt
Vegetable oil for frying
Cinnamon for dusting
Procedure
Step 1:
measure and sieve your flour, measure margarine, water and sugar separately on different bowls and set them aside
Step 2:
In a clean pot, add the 1 cup of water, the 2 tablespoons of margarine, the 1/2 tablespoon of sugar, the 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence and a pinch of salt and bring it to a boil
Step 3:
At boiling point, add the already sieved flour and stir vigorously until a rough dough is formed. Then, turn off the heat when the dough separates from the pot.
Step 4:
Continue to knead the dough with your spatula until a smooth dough is achieved. Then allow it to rest for five minutes.
Step 5:
Add the one egg to the rested dough
and beat vigorously until a rough softer dough is achieved
Step 6:
Transfer the dough into a piping bag with a curly nozzle or formulated plastic bottle nozzle
wrap tightly and set aside.
Step 7:
Tie a wick to the ends of a frying pot. Put a good amount of vegetable oil in the frying pot for deep frying and heat it up
Step 8:
Pipe the churros into the already heat up oil and fry until golden brown.
Step 9:
Drain them on a serviette and then coat them with cinnamon and sugar.
Then serve with melted chocolate or tea or any combo of your choice.
When you tried the churros, what was your experience like? Did you like them? Explain your answer in detail.
Well, from the beginning, getting the items from the shop were easy as the recipe requires easy to get items. With the little experience I have in pastry, I was able to navigate without much stress. The major challenge I had was trying to get the bigger size of the curly nozzle. Thanks to the tutor for sending the video on how to use soda bottle to form a similar nozzle. It was indeed very helpful because I never imagined how the small nozzle would have given me this size the churros came out with. From the point of adding the flour to the pot, I had to be fast, careful and patient to get a good result. But what I did observe was that after adding the egg, my play dough was a bit hard. I guess I should have used a large egg and not a small one. I had to add a tablespoon of water to soften the dough a bit.
I really like churros, another savory snack my daughter loves as well. Eating it alone is very nice but dipping it in that melted chocolate took it to another level. I really love them. It is something I would like to make often.
Is there a stand or business in your city that sells churros? Tell us.
Well, I have never seen any stand, supermarket or mall where churros is sold. This is my first time of coming across this savory snack.
What type of dough would you like to learn for our challenge #3?
I would like to learn any dough that would require fillings and be baked in an oven
Summarily, this is a very good snack to try again. As a newbie, I am open for corrections and guide on how to be better. Comments are highly welcomed.
