Why You Suck in Delegating
Many of us fail to achieve in many ways due to our own excuses. It will be faster for me to do than to spent time explaining, they cannot meet my expectation, it is too difficult for him to carry out. Does some of these excuses that seems justifiable sounds familiar to you?
Assuming you hire a maid, do you expect her to know what to do or you train her to carry out her task following your preference? They won’t know you don’t eat spicy if you don’t tell them, they won’t know to separate white clothes from dark colours if they are just clothes to wash. You can’t expect someone to meet your standards when you did not communicate clearly and provide the tools needed to perform their task.
Hence, failure to delegate is not the delegatees fault but yours. Here is the 3 Tips to delegate well
- Provide the task with explanation of what is expected
- Provide training / show and tell the 1st time
- communicate preference including what colour to highlight, how paper should be clip/ bind and format
- Provide datelines and channel for escalation should they feel stuck!!
