You are very lucky with your finger, Saws can be very unforgiving, I have a friend that cut the side of his hand off including his little finger. I'm actually amazed at the job they did trying to fix it, it now looks like the hand of a Disney character.
They invented this a couple of years back for this reason.

I once cut deep into my thumb with one of those, nearly sliced it off. Still have the scar.
