Crossing with care : Red ants

in #macro3 years ago

Ants, which are insects that belong to the ant superfamily, are found all over the world and account for more than 30% of all animal biomass on the earth. They are only found in Antarctica and a few of the world's most remote islands.

Each bug in this group has a specific function. Males and workers are subservient to the queen (uterus), who is the head of the ant family. Queens are usually the most dominant members of the colony. Males and queens have large wings that allow them to fly away from the nest to reproduce. Shortly after fertilisation, the male dies, and the female begins her search for a new place to lay her eggs.

Ants are highly intelligent insects with advanced development, allowing them to build colonies of up to 10 million individuals. It's worth noting that they can do so in a fully humane way rather than by launching a targeted military attack. During these fights, ants can seize victims and transport them back to their colony as slaves.

On a daily basis, most people deal with small ginger house ants and their larger black counterparts in the garden.
