Forever

"Don't look at me like that".
His voice quivered when he said that. That didn't stop her. She took his hand, intertwining his fingers with hers, tighter than before.
"I'll look at you however I want", she said, albeit in a funny way.
In the dark room, he lay on his bed, breathing heavily. The rays of the moon gracefully caressed his face. The sky looked beautiful. Yet, he would not see anything but her.
"You deserve someone so better than me, you know. I'm dead weight. I've always brought sorrow to you"
"When I chose to be with you forever, I accepted the bane with the boon. Sure, you have some flaws. Don't we all?" She asked.
"Forever? Heh. It's temporary, love. I couldn't give you the forever you deserve. A defective piece, that's what I am."
He heaved a heavy sigh and turned towards the moon.
"It's time." His face looked more at peace with each passing secons.
"I can feel it, you know."
"I'm here for you. Always, love" was all she could mutter.
A lot of emotions spurred within him at that moment. So many things to say, yet words failing his tongue. The end had him baffled.
He was about to ask her to kiss him, but she read his mind. He stops and whispers to her.
"I love you."

She leans forward to kiss him again. Her eyes are closed. She feels the icy grip of death on his lips. She opens her eyes.
He looked so much at peace. He had left with a smile of contentment on his face.
She couldn't help but smile, as a single tear left her eye and traversed her cheek.
"Forever"
She said as she lied down beside him. His hand in hers, she closes her eyes with a smile on her face.
