By the Doorstep, Waiting… A tribute to my great grandmother

in #love7 years ago

I saw her sitting by the doorstep looking like she was expecting someone to come home. At 8 years more to 100, her time-kissed skin was very noticeable. Her arched back is the result of years of weaving. And three quarters of our talk is funnily, introducing ourselves. a1 (3).jpg

But amidst these very features of a very old woman, she has characteristics that amazed me the most. Her weeds are cigarettes, and her energy drink is soda. Yet, she got no organ complications. Her vision’s as sharp as an eagle’s and her endurance is of a bear. She can even manage sitting on crossed legs for a very long time. Her hobby is wandering around the city all by herself. And whenever she invites and takes us to a very long walk, we’ll surely notice if she starts walking fast.

She’s a mother of a dozen, and now all have their own families already. She has never fallen short as a mother for she was able to raise them properly. At the present time, her children are tending her as much as they could. As how great she was a mother is also how great she was as a wife.

Her name really reflects herself when she was young. Maria can never go outside the house without her makeup on. Her red lips gained her suitors and among all those trying to steal her heart, the only person she laid her eyes on is a very simple man, who later on, became her lifetime partner.

Her love for her husband is incomparable. She devoted everything to her husband and so did his husband too. She was really treated like a queen by her one true love. They faced countless of trials but were able to surpass it together, through the strong bond they have with each other.

But the most challenging trial of all is when her husband has fallen ill. This moment in her life was the most heartbreaking. They did everything to better him again. They even sold their house to get his husband medicated. But because of his age, and the severity of his illness, he passed away. All was devastated including her. And this devastation can still be traced even up to these days.

We always see her tap her fingers in a certain rhythm along with her humming. And that rhythm is of their love song. We also catch her crying in her room sometimes. She even tells us that the former chairman of their locale was so sweet that he still prepares meals for her. And whenever somebody asks her where her husband is, she always respond that he was taken by the president to get treated. She even swore to slap the president’s face if he won’t return him back.

And days of waiting for his return became years. But time didn’t change her earnestness.

She’s still longing for her husband.

And now, I sadly know why she’s always by the doorstep waiting.
