Zef:South African subculture

in #lifestyle7 years ago

Yolandi Visser; ,,It's associated with people who soup their cars up and rock gold and shit. Zef is, you're poor but you're fancy. You're poor but you're sexy, you've got style.''

1.WHAT IS ZEF

Zef is a South African counter-culture movement.Zef is a style, a way of thinking and a way of dressing.Word ZEF is a shortening from car Ford Zephyr that was very popular in the 1960s and 1970s.Zef style of music is a hibernation of Afrikaans and English.

2.IDEA OF ZEF

People who are zef hate mainstream. They try to be original, they don't like materialistic world they live in.They live in they own world and have their own goals.Idea is to be different, their movement is everything opposite from western civilization.

3.DRESSING

"It's like wearing high heels with a tracksuit. Being truly zef takes guts."

DIE ANTWOORD

People who made this culture popular and known in the world are two rappers/singers from South african band called die antwoord. The group comprises Ninja and Yolandi Visser, a male/female duo.Their unique style is exemplified by their music videos and involves the alternating interplay between Yolandi's high-pitched rhymes and Ninja's swagger, both spoken with their characteristic accents.
Personally i enjoy listening to them.Thing I like about them is that you can listen to them in every mood you are in,their spots are very interesting, there is a story behind every song, they do the music and text by themselves.

Other performers who have been identified as exponents of zef include Voëlvry leader Koos Kombuis,
comic performers Corné and Twakkie (Louw Venter and Rob van Vuuren) and the comedy group Zef Sketse.
