#3. Unmask the Three Thieves of Peace in Your Life and Be Free!

in #life7 years ago

Today let's talk about the three thieves who are responsible for robbing you of peace in your life.

1. Comparing Yourself to Others

There are two sides to this coin.

#1. Comparison Leading to Feeling Inferior:

When you look at others, and have a feeling that they are in some way better than you. That their life is better than yours, and you find yourself wishing if you could live that way, how wonderful your life would be.

This kind of thinking robs you of the peace in your life.

Don’t get me wrong, it is good to look up to others, and admire their good qualities, and even try to emulate them, but one has to understand, that every persons’ journey is unique.

That’s the best part about life. You are a unique individual, and not a single soul can have the exact same experience of life as you.

Which is why comparing yourself, and thinking someone is better than you, smarter than you, more successful than you, is not going to help.

So it is best to let-go of that kind of thinking, and not fall for the comparison trap. For you have your life to live, your way, and the fact is, no body has the right to define what success should mean in your life, other than yourself.

So let go of ideas that ask you to surrender to the status-quo and be your best self.

This applies for Steemit too, don't worry about the posts that are making so much more than you are.

Create with such passion, that you make money irrelevant. And you won't have to worry about money ever.

#2. Comparison Leading to Feeling Superior:

Now, this is the other side of the coin, and is often something the ego loves doing.

The ego loves looking at others, those who may “appear” to be less fortunate, and I say appear in quotes, because nobody who has life is unfortunate. Not a single soul. Even those who think otherwise.

Life is a gift, a precious one.

So the ego compares to get this sense of superiority, and it feeds off this comparison. In a way, ego loves competition, but the truth is, the ego is afraid.

The ego needs a constant sense of approval, without it, it knows it is “nothing.”

How peaceful do you think a person will truly be, if they let their life be defined by the desires of their ego, which is practically insatiable?

So this is the second trap that one needs to avoid.

2. Being Enslaved by Time

Yeah, I know, time is everything isn’t it? Time is the most valuable asset you have. Because it is one of those things that once gone, will never come back.

This is what we have been told, don’t waste your time. And, while I am all for using time productively, when we allow time to rule us, instead of we taking control of it. We get enslaved by it.

If you observe carefully, creation is in no hurry. Nature takes its own time, and as far as it is concerned, it has all the time in the world.

No creature on this planet appears more anxious because of passing time, other than the human being.

This anxiousness has turned into an epidemic, we have become so used to hurrying up, that we now hurry up, even when there is absolutely no need to.

I am sure you know at least one person, who is always in hurry, even when they don’t need to be.

What we need to do is, slow down. Relax and know that everything will get done in it’s time.

Otherwise, the more you hurry, the more you worry.

3. Taking the Burden of the World

Now, this may or may not apply to you. But quite a few people that I know, seem to be concerned about everything that is happening in the world.

They watch the news, or some celebrity gossip, and then go blah blah blah.

I mean, if you cannot affect or direct the situation, you’re causing yourself unnecessary pain.

Sometimes it is just best to let the world be. And you can go about your business.

Trust that no problem is born without a solution. So if there is a problem, a solution is right around the corner.

So leave your concerns aside, and focus on what is important to you in your life.

In short, keep it simple. You’ll thank yourself for doing so.

Cheers!

At times it's just so hard not worry about stuff more so when you are the type of person who overthinks like i do . It happens involuntarily ... This post has powerful insights towards archiving peace of mind though . Thanks

@maxwell95 The truth is it is not you who overthinks, it is the mind. Using practices like meditation, and increasing your mindfulness you will be able to see, that you are not your mind, and this will lead to peace! All the best! Cheers!

I have never really tried meditating. I will try it soon..

Really a lovely synopsis of three very important truths!

I would have to say that number #2 is probably the most important of the three you listed. Time is only relevant to that which observes it. We as the observer can literally dictate our relationship with it merely by framing our mind in one way or another. As you said far to many people these days are rushing around when their is no need to hurry. The mind constantly drives them to have to get to the next when it fact they are exactly where they are suppose to be in their present moment experience. I hear more people recognizing these truths and I have a lot of hope for what the future will hold for our journey as humans. The future looks bright but maybe that's only because I choose to see it that way? Cheers!

@maslowmission I am all for being optimistic. No matter the amount of chaos, the light WILL find its way. Thank you! Cheers!

I am the one worrying about the world. I see negativity everywhere. I cant bear the sight of wrong things around me. It gives me pain.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Nothing in this world is permanent. All storms, no matter how big, have to pass one day! Peace. Cheers!

These are all indeed theives of our peace. The comparing ourselves especially, people just tend to show the good things that happen and not all the mundane (or crappy things) that happen to them, so there is no point comparing youself.

Time, I struggle with, never enough time!

As for burdens, I am just learning to take mine off and being free from that weight.

Awesome things to think about and consider @witnesslife

"people just tend to show the good things that happen and not all the mundane (or crappy things) that happen to them, so there is no point comparing youself." Well said! No point comparing your real life to peoples reel life. Hehe! Cheers!
