The Hard Way? Or the Way to Freedom?
Sometimes in life we have to make choices. Sometimes we have to do things that are scary or seem difficult. Often we chose the safe road or the easy road. But is safe always better?
My life was relatively easy. I had a good job in the Netherlands and I was making good progress inside a big company. Many friends, a big family, lots of social security.
But one thing was bothering me. I wasn't making my own choices. In my heart I always wanted to live a life at a warm beach, working for myself, enjoying my day to day.
So I did. I gave everything in the Netherlands up and went, on the age of 26, to the beautiful island of Florianópolis, Brazil. Said to have 42 beaches.
Of course, this choice has scared me, because the average income in Brazil is around 1/5 of The Netherlands, but I believe in following your heart . I live by the rule of Following your Highest Exitement.
All the time I have been in Brazil I have worked with web site, app and online store creation and so far so good!
My next step in life I believe will be something with blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies because this whole concept is super exiting to me!
Today I became super inspired by @gigafart when he posted about working from the beach. That is my next goal!
Thanks for your story, wish you good luck and hope you will reach your dream! I am in the same proces as you and I hope we can learn from, and motivate each other.
How long are you abroad? I don't regret my descission for one moment. Of course, as described in my post, social security in The Netherlands is much higher. But I am learning that becoming completely independent will give you so much strenght and mental force that it is totally worth it.
Who wants to be dependent of a corrupt govenment anyway? Here in Brazil it is not perfect of course, many social problems and very corrupt government. But it is much easier to live way more 'under the radar'.
Great story!
