Digital India: Opportunity for the Youth
With the passage of time, technology has advanced manifold. Since the good old days of telegram to the present day smartphone, the world has turned from analog to digital. The beginning of the 21st century has woken India up to a new dawn. The advent of internet, e-mail and social networking has reduced the world into a “global village” and India has accepted the change whole-heartedly.
The initiative of “Digital India” taken by the Government of India under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi is a transformational programme that aims to strengthen the youth and future of the country thereby providing digital infrastructure, e-governance and empower citizens. This will make them digitally literate and help in accessing digital resources. The programme of “Digital India” plans to form a digital infrastructure, deliver services digitally and finally
achieve digital literacy.
After its successful implementation, the common man will be able to connect to the government and host of useful resources will positively impact and benefit every citizen. Efforts are being made to create a nation-wide digital network to reach out to each and every nook and corner of the country. As a result, this network will be easily accessible to all the citizens by the use of low cost smart phones and tablets.
Creating new jobs is a challenging task and it plays a major role in the economy of a country. Recent surveys have confirmed that there are more literate unemployed youth than illiterate ones. Also one in every three graduates in India is unemployed.
Digital India will empower the country’s youth power to know the government and its various departments better and to analyze the loopholes and strength irrespective of political issues. This will benefit the rural youth with endless opportunities to interact with people from different walks of life and evolve better as an individual. The user friendly interface will bring more people to get in touch with the technology and the platform will act as a knowledge-pool. In the agriculture sector, the farmers will also be able to gather more knowledge about the policies of the government and be benefitted by the same. With the coming of start-up venture supports, the youngsters will get a chance to demonstrate their enterprising skills with the help of venture capital provided to them.
In the IT sector, customer oriented policies can be easily adopted by the upcoming entrepreneurs, resulting in self dependent services. In case of any assistance, youngsters will be able to connect directly with the government departments which need just a mouse-click. When the system becomes more and more transparent, the position of the middlemen or the so called ‘dalals’ will be eradicated and thus suggestion and complaints will reach the concerned authorities directly in much lesser time and the matters will be resolved and addressed by the right people at the right time.
In case of research activities and trainings, this programme will prove to be very useful as the youth will be able to join a vast pool of knowledge to discuss and exchange innovative ideas. The online medium of education will gain new dimensions and the youth of the rural and sub-urban population having limited access to the various courses available, will be having a better learning experience.
Ever since its launch, E-commerce portals have been an instant hit in the Indian market. This sector of commercial establishment is better understood and utilized by the youth. In the current scenario, a number of such business portals have been serving the nation quite well, enabling the goods to get delivered at the doorsteps providing hassle-free service. The country’s youth have aimed to gain new horizons with more and more self employed people and e commerce sites paying handsomely to the deserving ones.
The world is in a race against time. Science and Technology is a spearhead to development and India is very much excited to join the glorious journey through the “Digital India” programme. In fact, global investors have also expressed their support and willingness to help this initiative by helping to polish and sharpen India’s man power, providing low cost services in the rural areas and other services.
It is high time that India focuses on its digital revolution and pave the way for its future generation to create a level playing field with the rest of the world. In the words of PM Modi, “I dream of a Digital India where the world looks to India for the next big idea.”
