Scientific reasons and benefits of serving foods on Banana leaf.
Hello my dear friends. Today I'm gonna explain to y'all about a common practice and the scientific reasons why Hindu people use banana leaf as a plate.Hope all enjoy the post
- Scientific Reasons:
a) BananaLeaves have EGCG ( epigallocatechin gallate): EGCG are poly phenolic molecules rich in banana leaves, making them anti-oxidant , anti-bacterial and anti fungal in nature killing all the germs in food to a large extent. If you don’t know EGCG, this is the same compound presents in tea leaves and grapes !!!
Though banana leaves cannot be digested fastly by human body, the food wrapped with banana leaves can absorbs these molecules and would make us much healthier.
b) They are anti-diabetic: Recent reports suggest that the extract of banana leaves could reduce the risk of Type-2 diabetes (Source:http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0102-695X2013005000062 )
c) Cheaper, healthier and chemical free natural plates: What else to say, you just wash it , use it and trash it.
You can serve many things on banana plates as they are pretty large.
When you wrap food with boiled banana leaves, it would give extra flavor to you cuisines, making it more healthier. The mild boiling might favor the release of poly phenoloic compounds into the food, and making it more durable and tastier !!!
- Religious reasons: Most of the Hindu people use banana leaves for performing ritual ceremonies at home or temple. They consider banana leaves sacred, might be of the above mentioned scientific reasons.
So there you go the tricks behind the banana leaf. The leaf is so powerful that it is even capable of killing cancer cells which very few knows about it.I recommend everyone to try this method someday and share the experience with me.
