One of The Benefits of Crisis

Shakespeare “Sweet are the uses of adversity (tragedy or a disastrous event).”

Let’s focus on succeeding in times of crisis. How do we become successful, when everybody else is crumbling around us? How do we make it to the system, when the system has spat us out? What do we do, when we are no longer needed in a company? What do we do, when we lose our income? We can’t buy food or pay our bills. What do we do, when nothing seems to work out and we are losing our car, house and our sanity? What do we do, when we don’t have enough to take care of our bills and family or our daily obligations? How do we handle a crisis life, when it hit us on the blindside and we didn’t expect things to go the way it went? What do we do, when friends abandon us and can’t help us, and our company, it has to shut down? What do we do, when creditors are pressing us on every side? How do we survive, when we have worked for 20 or 30 years and they laid you off? Now you’re too old to start a new skill. What happens, when an insurance company doesn’t want to insure us anymore because they are assuming our age doesn’t benefit the policy principles? What do we do, when sickness ravishes our body, the bills of medical attention is eating away at our own family legacy. What do we do, when we have to take the kids out of private school and we have to go to public schools? What do we do, when marriage have so much stress because of financial stress and causing a difficult time sleeping with our spouse?

A crisis means change and its like a hurricane. A Hurricane is like a massive tornado. When a hurricane comes, we call it a crisis. Why? A crisis is circumstances that occur that we didn’t have control over and we didn’t cause it. Crisis sometimes is institutional circumstances of even the nature, the environment or the system that attacks our equilibrium.

When things are adverse or crisis don’t panic. Use them for positive results. Everything that happens to us could be used to produce something good. Adversity can benefit the one under the adversity. For example, one of the richest man Jon Huntsman is the founder of the largest company in the United States. He produced 90% of plastic forks, cups and paper plates. His company fell into debts and his company collapsed and he went into a crisis mode. No banks wanted to give him a loan and he wanted to quit! He went into bankruptcy. However, his wife told him, “You told me this is God‘s idea and you are going to make this company successful,” and he said, I’m never going to start this company again and I’m going to look for a job. It’s over! His wife said, I married you because I believed in you. Start again!” His wife made him go back and got a loan from another bank. He told the bank the truth to what happened and the bank took a chance on him. He told the bank, I know how to build a business. I can start again. With no credit, credibility, no assets just a record how he built a company. Today, the company is worth $14 billion.

Jon said, “If there’s a silver lining to the bad times it is this.” Facing severe challenges, your mind is normally as its sharpest. When we are under the biggest pressure that is when our mind normally as its sharpest. Ideas that we have not thought of begins to rise up. Jon is talking from experience. Humans seldom create anything of lasting value, unless they were tried, tested or hurting.” We don’t produce worth talking about, unless we are under pressure. We are never trusted for the things we claim, but we are always trusted with the things we survive. It is the test that creates credibility or trust. If you’re going through bankruptcy moment, then this is the test on the other side of crisis or change. We never think of crisis comes through to conclude our life, it comes through credibility to our life. Whatever we are going through right now, it’s going to give us the respect of other people observing us. There are people praying for us to fail and trust us, when we don’t. They hope we don’t make it and they congratulate us, when we make it in life. Therefore, accept the test as part of us becoming a successful person. Successful people have survival testimonies. They were not born successful. They were the result of going through a hot furnace and being with wild lions, tearing them apart. Being criticized and attacked. Success is what people think of you, after they are trying to kill you. This is success!
