“Higher Senses”
When we tune into spirit in order to listen to our soul, our mind and body are deluged with thoughts, feelings, images, sounds, sometimes even specific tastes and/or smells. Spirit impresses upon us truths that instantly pop into our minds, seemingly out of nowhere, but actually it’s part of our intuitive or psychic abilities as humans. We all possess higher senses, called clair senses, which are types of psychic abilities that correspond with the five physical senses of seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling and tasting. I learned that while each of us usually has one or two dominant physical senses, we also have one or more dominant clair senses and we all have our own style of communicating with spirit. Many of us receive information via our higher senses without even being conscious of it. For example, have you ever had a strong "gut" feeling or the "chills" for no apparent reason? You may have been tuning into the mental and/or emotional energy of a person or disincarnate being around you. Have you ever had a song pop in your mind and then suddenly heard someone nearby begin singing that same song, or vice versa? Understand, none of that is coincidence. Those are just some examples of how our thoughts and emotions carry energy which can be picked up by others because we humans are both transmitters and recipients of energy. This is why spiritual teachers throughout history include the practice of meditation and prayer as methods of controlling our thoughts and emotions, because they do affect those around us. Like radio waves, we are continuously broadcasting and receiving spiritual information from our environment and the people around us. Tuning into this energy in whatever method works best for us continues to strengthen our higher sensory abilities:
Clairvoyance (clear seeing) - This is when past, present and future visions flash through our mind's eye, or third eye. The Clairvoyant can perceive a wider spectrum of light allowing them to see auras, disincarnate beings such as ghosts, and other entities of spirit. Visual people such as artists, photographers, designers, etc., tend to be predominantly clairvoyant.
Clairaudience (clear hearing) - This is when we hear words, sounds or music in our own mind's voice generated by spirit or energy. Some understand best through sound, retaining information audibly and being great channels. Clairaudients can hear sounds of frequencies that others do not, making them gifted musicians, singers, writers and public speakers.
Clairsentience (clear feeling) - This entails feeling a person's or spirit's emotions, or feeling another's physical pain. Being highly sensitive and in tune with not just their own feelings, but also the feelings of others, clairsentients are natural healers and caretakers, often pursuing careers as doctors, nurses, therapists, counselors, and teachers.
Clairalience (clear smelling) - This is being able to smell odors that don't have any kind of physical source. Clairalients can smell the perfume or cigarette smoke, as a few examples, of deceased relatives indicating their presence. Certain smells can connect to memories, drawing the clairalient to seek work as wine tasters, florists, chemists, or fragrance creators.
Clairgustance (clear tasting) - This is the ability to taste something that isn't physically there. The clairgustant heavily associates food and flavors with memories of people, places, or things, sometimes receiving information from deceased loved ones in the form of taste. Individuals with this higher sense of taste make excellent chefs, bakers, or food critics.
Claircognizance (clear knowing) - This is when we have knowledge of people or events that we would not normally have knowledge of. An example would be premonitions, forewarnings of something that will happen in the future. Claircognizants tap into spirit and embody wisdom obtained over lifetimes of experience. For obvious reasons, many philosophers, professors, scientists, religious and spiritual leaders are claircognizant.
