A community came out yesterday to donate and give charity to those affected by the fire in London.
Young men were seen running into the building.
I witnessed the fire yesterday in North Kensington, West London. I, along with many onlookers watched helplessly behind the area that had been cordoned off by police tape. I saw as people tried to get closer but a policeman said, "Stay back. It's for your own good." Most people listened but I later found out that others didn't.
North Kensington has a significant Muslim population hailing from many countries. The fire happened just a few hours before dawn. This was a time when many Muslims would be getting up to pray. Also, since it is Ramadan, they would be making a special effort to go and pray together at their local Mosques. Today I have heard first hand accounts of Muslim men running into the building to save people.
Also, the Muslim community has been collecting food, water and other provisions for those affected. I took these pictures outside a local Mosque just 24 hours after the fire.
This video shows an account of some local residents:
So it seems that many people decided not to listen to that policeman and listened to their hearts instead. It appears that it was young men who passed the police tape. Evidently (and thankfully) there are young people who have a healthy disrespect for authority when the need arises.
What sticks out in my mind today is how the entire community has rallied around to help each other.
This is what being human is all about- helping and supporting each other and especially those in need.
If you listen to what the media tells us about the world we live, it's very easy to despair. But I say, just go out into your local communities and meet real people. You will find that the overwhelming majority of people are peace-loving and just what to get on with each other.
This is what I love about Steemit. It is a community where everyone wants to support each other, contribute and get along. That's an amazing thing.
Peace to you all. And steem on!
This is great to see , really brings joy to my heart when others open their hearts for the ones in need 🙏🏽
I actually man-cried a bit when I saw all the food and stuff, I had to turn around and hide my face! Guess it's 'cos sometimes we get so busy and consumed in our own lives that we can forget others around us. It's nice to have reminders that people do care. Please share this with ppl!
