3 hours on Steemit turned into fun, cool discussions and... sexism? - or Can I look feminine and not being stupid?

in #life8 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone!

Hope you are having a good time on Steemit here, cause mine is totally hilarious :D
Wanna know why? Because Steemit comments can show how different  our community is. Recently I posted in the #introduceyourself section.   And... the comments went on. (You can check 'em out if you're willing to).

Mostly of them were very welcoming, and I wanna say thanks to all of you. Except of some ;)

So I started wondering myself: will sexism and stereotypes based on it ever end? How Mr.Peanutbutter  for Bojack the Horseman TV show used to say, "Let's find out!"

Stereotype is not some sort of a pure evil thing. It's rather an overgeneralizing model based on some phenomena. For example, we can say that the sentence "auto always have wheels" is a stereotype. We use this models to make it easier for our brain to function. But sometimes, they can be very offensive. Like sexism. I have to admit: humanity made a great way towards emancipation.  But is it enough? In some countries, maybe. But we will reach the final goal when we won't see it even in the anonymous, or at least in pseudo-anonymous (keep Bitcoin in mind :D )  space.

So can I look feminine (hope you agree on that) and not be stupid? Let me know what you think.

@steemgirl, love the fact you take this topic straight-on. You are not hiding, nor 'just letting it go', but rather see it as an opportunity to discuss and educate. You are bold and brave, which is just another way of showing how stereotypes can be so misleading and incorrect. Keep it up. Show your brains, humor, resolve, creativity, and yes by all means show your femininity.

Thank you, @mrosenquist! I do believe we can change the world. And the information is the weapon in the 21st century, so we are well equipped, all of us!

This is also a girl here. I have put up with this for years, and it's worse out in the real world. Sexism will still live long, in my opinion. But it's up to us to prove it wrong, right dear?

Yeap, thats right! You shouldn't blame anyone if you don't stand for yourself in the first place

don't worry. there isn't much sexism on steemit. and there's more than a few beautiful and very smart girls on here.
it is always the same few accounts who attack girls based on prejudice....and they are always proven wrong . that @earnest dude is a nutjob. he attacked other girls too.

That's a nice thing to hear, @simoneeighties!
To be honest it's a nice situation here, on Steemit, though we can't tell the numbers yet, so we will probably see it in a year or so. I suppose those on Steemit nowadays are more of progressive and open-minded people, because this platform is still very young.

Because you now, it really depends on country. It's still kinda tough in Eastern Europe, and should I mention Fox Conservative shows?

Anyway, thank you for reading this and I hope there will be less of that kind of stuff in the future.

I hope there will be less girls trying to deceive people using their looks

you are so naive

Thank you for your support!
