Colonel Sanders On Going The Extra Mile
“I never limited myself to serving gas. I also repaired flat tires that customers left at the station. The service station was open until 9 o'clock, then when I closed I repaired the inner tubes. Sometimes I didn't finish until 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning. Then I opened again at 5 a.m. Most gas stations didn't open until 7, and I sold more gas between 5 and 7 in the morning than the other stations sold all day.”
- Colonel Harland David Sanders (1890 – 1980)
The above quote (taken from my trusty old copy of The Millionaire's Book of Quotations) shows Sanders' ferocious work ethic and commitment to customer care. It's no wonder he made a success of Kentucky Fried Chicken (after years of work and many setbacks) and sold his company for a princely $2 million (over $15 million in today's money).
So you would say being a millionaire that wasted his life completely is better then being poor but not having lived a live with constant lack of sleep, no free time and nothing important done?
How did Sanders waste his life? He built businesses and (eventually) a fortune (which he used to set up a charitable foundation). To someone like that, work is leisure.
Hi @septimusmaximus, I just stopped back to let you know your post was one of my favourite reads and I included it in my Steemit Ramble. You can read what I wrote about your post here.
Awesome - I'm glad the colonel's words struck a chord with you :)
