Crazy Fact 2 - Have Some Of Our Bones Gone Missing?

in #life7 years ago

We all are born with nearly 300 bones inside our bodies. But by the time we grow up, we are only left with 206 of them. Why is that so? Does it mean that in the process of growing up, we lose some of our bones along the way just like many other things in our lives? Disappointing, right?

Luckily, the answer is no. Because unlike other things, our bones stick with us throughout our lives no matter what the circumstances are.

The reason behind this decrease in the number of bones is that almost one third of the bones present inside an infant’s body fuse to form a human skeleton of 206 bones. When babies are born, they have multiple pieces of tiny bones but as they grow up, these tiny pieces join to form bigger bones. Moreover, some of these bones is just cartilage, a flexible connective tissue, which changes into bones as we reach adulthood through a process called ossification.

So yeah, your bones did not go missing anywhere. They are still present inside your body, performing their function faithfully while you enjoy your life. So, you better take care of them by keeping them healthy and feeding them well.
