As you might have already read from the title, I want to share with you guys today one of my favorite if not my favorite Egyptian Dessert recipe! It's called basbousa and in a nutshell it's a mixture of semolina (Purified wheat middlings), coconuts, and milk.

Semolina might sound like a really weird ingredient for most of you western readers, but it's actually a really famous in Egypt and most Mediterranean countries.

It has many uses in different dessert recipes and foods, however I'll be sharing the most well known one with you guys today. Now, on to the actual recipe!

3- Put the milk with the butter on the stove till it reaches a boil and the butter melts, and immediately pour on top of the dry ingredients ad mix well till you have a doughy texture.

While the basbousa is baking it's time to prepare the syrup!

  • Mix all the syrup ingredients together on the stove on high heat till it boils

  • Leave it to boil for 6 min on medium hit or till the syrup thickens.

Now get the basbousa out of the oven and pour 1/2 the syrup on to the basbousa and after 15 to 30 min, pour the other half and leave it till it cools completely!
