Experience

Let's talk about experience, a medical doctor who has carried out several successful surgeries has experience and would always be better than a fresh doctor who just graduated from the medical school. An engineer who has SUCCESSFULLY operated a machine for several years would always be better than a hot 1st class graduate who just finished from the university. A security man who has SUCCESSFULLY caught many burglars would be preferred to a new well built young man without any experience. An old experienced dog can't be compared to a new one, Experience is the knowledge or mastery of an event or subject gained through involvement in or exposure to it. Terms in philosophy such as "empirical knowledge" or "a posteriori knowledge" are used to refer to knowledge based on experience. A person with considerable experience in a specific field can gain a reputation as an expert. The concept of experience generally refers to know-how or procedural knowledge, rather than propositional knowledge: on-the-job training rather than book-learning.~Wikipedia One very key word that is missing in our arguments about experience is perhaps SUCCESS especially as we link it to leadership in Nigeria. There is a considerable difference between attempt and actual success, our leaders have attempted to with their know-how tried and are still trying to make the country work ( this is an assumption) but it's obvious that their efforts has not really clicked the right file. They have experience no doubt, but what would you called a medical doctor in whose hands no patient ever survived, or an engineer who has shut down 10 factories he has ever worked before, would you rather use an experienced dog who wags it tail at everyone that comes to the house thieves inclusive? Those who have successfully fought wars would always display their medals, a successful athletes would rather show you his trophies rather than sing about his several years on the tracks. A man who has failed over the years has only one thing to show for his several years, and that is his failure, he may show you his several attempts but ultimately what it amount to is what it is FAILURE nothing more. When we talk about leadership in Nigeria the general consensus is that it is a huge failure, this is an undeniable fact, the evidences are here for all to see, from our value for human life to dilapidated school infrastructure, our death traps roads to our self serving ceremonial leaders, to primitive personal aggrandizement to narcissistic personality disorder, their thirst for power and luxury, everything points to the fact that LEADERSHIP has failed in Nigeria over the years. A child might offer to help his dad when he sees the old man trying to operate his phone without SUCCESS, sometimes a child just knows how stuff works because of the age of what he wants to work on, there is a disconnect between the leaders of today's Nigeria and the majority of those that makes up the population of the same country, there is a group that think that leadership is all about title and ceremony rather than about service and responsibilities. We have young men springing up with ideas on how-to because they have ran a small business, they have worked with multinationals, they are in touch with today's world and today's people, they know how it feels to be on the streets without a job because they have been there, they know how much talents we are wasting in Nigeria because they see themselves as one, their quality of thinking and the company of friends is rich, their ideas are fresh and new, their minds are progressive and dynamic in nature. They know the meaning of nuclear physics, they also know how to turn the energy of our millions of youths into a productive enterprise, they have what it take to replace the analog generation and at least begin to move in the same direction with the rest of the world, they are everyday regular accessible guys. Since experience has failed why can't we just try something New.
