We are Fucked... as in Humanity

Soo why are we so fucked?We have so many problems that we have pretty much brought upon ourselves. We are polluting the atmosphere, using up drinkable water to cool down huge factories and using up the earth's natural resources at a unprecedented speed. We need to do something about it, and while we can't just stop living our lives we can make an attempt to slow down our footprint on earth.

What should we do?

We should take a look at plants as a guide. They are little solar power plants that make the energy they need by using the sun. We need to learn from them. The sun is the one energy source that is abundant on earth. There are 1.74 x 1017 watts that make it to the earth each year. If we could capture the full power of the sun that hits the earth for just one hour we would have energy for the whole planet to last us 1 full year. How awesome is that??

What are we doing?

We are not doing enough. There are pockets of the world, like Germany, that are making advancements in Solar Power. Elon Musk is heavily invested in solar energy, but overall we as human kind are not doing enough. We are not even scratching the surface on what we could potentially do.

What should we do?

This is a two part question. We, as individuals should be using the sun in our homes. May be it's not the most financially efficient way to power our homes at the moment but we should make the effort to put solar panels wherever we can on our properties. The second part is the government. The government should require new construction to place solar panels on top of bigger buildings and retrofit older buildings for solar panel roofs. This is what could make us just a bit less shitty as humans :)
