Not Failing at 2018.
With the new year being right around the corner, I decided to stop and reflect a bit on what that means- if anything at all. Do I go on a sugar fueled bender with the intention of abstaining beginning on the first? Do I spend this time in quiet contemplation, effectively doing nothing?
Or do ignore the hype, and focus on making changes now? Do I not set the typical, often failed resolutions in favor of incremental change starting immediately? Do I heed the advice of all the internet gurus and take action now?
This is my plan so far... do both. Take the middle path. I got a good workout in yesterday morning, trained Jiu Jitsu last night- and had a brownie for breakfast today. Someone was kind enough to bring me one as a token of holiday cheer, and I figured if I waited the freshness would be steadily declining so I needed to seize the moment. Does this make me terrible and negate my hard work yesterday? Nah. Do I feel guilty? Nope.
The beauty of the middle way...aka moderation.
As of right now my plan to end 2017 is to continue implementing small changes to my life that will get me closer to my goals. I will also take advantage of some extra downtime to reflect on and refine those goals going forward. I may pick one or two bigger initiatives to roll with starting next year, but nothing unrealistic.
I will eat my brownies, cookies, and other goodies that magically appear this time of year. However, I won't eat them all and I will still get to the gym. But with the time spent refining and refocusing my goals and systems and I will continue to get better and make my life more of what I want it to be- taking responsibility and taking control.
