Survival tip 64

So this one is going to be a longer post but well worth it.

The frontiersmen may have used the same knife to skin game, eat, and shave with. But that might not have been the greatest idea. They worked with what they had.

So first is the most basic but most essential your EDC knife. The classic pocket knife is ften a folding knife, but it can just as easily be a fixed-blade. This would be your go to knife for most cutting jobs and the most likely tool that you'll be keeping on your person. (pocket). The newer model folders can often have assisted opening like spring or gravity, theres also thumb studs that help out with this. Select a folding knife that opens smoothly and without feeling loose or any rattling. Stainless steel or high carbon steel blades can both be fine choices for this.

Second is the famous Bowie knife. This knife was made famous by Colonel James Bowie, and is the most popular blade used for hunting, fighting, and most all of your basic survival tasks. Your going to want to look for one that has a full tang (blade metal goes all the way thru the handle), a blood groove is a nice feature, and some good weight. Youll want it heavy enough to chop but light enough to carry. High carbon and stainless are good options.

You should always have a fillet knife handy. It is not just enough to have it around. Knowing how to fillet is an art form and skill that you NEED to learn. There is an option to have one for large game, fish and poultry but if 1 is all your able to get, that wont be an issue. Plastic handles are most popular, it helps with grip as well as keep it sanitary. Stainless steel is a must and it needs to be very thin.

Chef's knife is a good idea for basic kitchen cutting, Used for prepping food, chopping, dicing, and slicing enything. Avoid high carbon because it is prone to rust with water contact. stainless steel is best.

Tactical knives are great, they mean business, and are great for CQC. Most the time they are great for firearm backups. They need to be rugged like a Bowie, razor sharp with a perpetrated edge. Tanto vs drop point tips.

Rescue knifes also known as EMT knives, very versatile survival tool and is commonly carried by emergency service personal. It will be a folding knife with an edge that is partially serrated and will have a seatbelt cutter and a glass breaker on it. A belt clip will for easy access and ability to place almost anywhere.

Combat knives are blades main for hand to hand combat. Just like the names says. It will be a single edges, high carbon steel straight blade with a clip point that will allow you to both thrust and slash. Options on this include a hollow handle to store more survival items, a serrated spine to act as a saw, and different things like this. Ka-bar is a knife made famous by the United States Marine Corps for this exact reason.

Lastly will be a Multitool. This is almost one of the most important items that you can carry on you just because of all the different tools and uses for this item. A swiss army knife was a perfect option a while back but right now there are a lot more options with a lot more attachments. Its folding mechanism holds things like pliers, screwdrivers, saws, and at least one blade. Although not ideal for combat situations having a multitool that can fit in the palm of your hand and have 30+ uses makes it almost invaluable.
