Is Steemit really what they claim it is? :/

I was excited the first time I learned about Steemit. It seamed to be just perfect!

I started curating content and getting new followers and finally last week I posted my first post.

Unfortunately, as a Portuguese of the area where the wildfires of last month, the most important subject for me to write about was the loss of my parents house, of which I posted photos and a small explanation of what happened. You can find it here:

I wasn't expecting to become a millionaire, but I was actually expecting that people would read my post, and possibly contribute with something, even just an up vote... I would do that for sure if I would see a post like mine.

The accounting in 5 days was: 6 views and 3 up votes... and a fantastic $0.04 in value of the post.

Is this what I should expect from this community?

What is the difference from Facebook?

At least on Facebook I had more views and friends came saying some words of hope...

Maybe I was expecting too much... :/

If anyone could get rich instantly we would all be millionaires by now...thats not how it works though. Dont give up on your expectations, all it takes is dedication and patience. Dont give up on writing new posts, on inspiring others with your original content. Stick with this and you will make it in the end.

I wasn't expecting to get rich, and that was not my motivation to write this article... It would be more than enough to have views... some words of compassion... up votes... That was what I was expecting. :/

The sad truth is those go hand in hand. The more votes you have the higher your visibility. Unfortunately your reputation is still quite low so your visibility curve is still quite steep. Keep writing, reading and leaving genuine comments on other peoples content so you will get noticed and grow friendships and connections to boost your own work organically.

you need more hard work! post daily, comment, follow and upvote on interesting article

You call that "Hard Work"?! Tell you what: "Hard Work" was what I had to do to take those photos while the house was still on fire... And all the destruction on my parents house... That is HARD!

While follower count isn't everything, it seems that the more followers you have = the more feeds you appear in = the more up-votes you are likely to receive.
My short time being here has shown me that the things you expect to get a lot of votes end up getting very few.
Good luck. Don't get discouraged. You will start to slowly see the value of your account rise, and that will give you some more motivation.
