Competitive Sports and Life Lessons.
There is hardly a human that does not love one form of sports or the other.
The beauty of sporting activities is that we don't have to be professionals or be really good at it to enjoy it,one could be very chubby and tells you his best sport is soccer,in your minds eye,you hear soccer and you see a Messi or a Ronaldo,"this guy standing in front of me doesn't look the part"of a footballer, your mind tells you,but it re-adjusts quickly again as you remember the crowds in a stadium or an aged relative at home that appreciates sports but cannot lift a leg for a kick.
In the part of the world where I am from, sports is the chief or number one event that makes us one or United, even for a brief time.
Yet,as one views a sporting event, life lessons often saunters or dances pass our eyes and minds.
Some of these are:
1.You win some,you loose some.
That is life for you,no one have had complete success in everything he has ventured into.
This fact is not lost on professional athletes, while they set out to win, things can,and do go sideways, but when that happens, they pick themselves up and move on.
Croatia had a good run at the world cup, some rooted for them to claim the trophy, but France had other ideas,it did hurt like hell, but after a while,they-the players, are back at their respective clubs, with smiling faces and moving on.
2.Hardwork pays.
Usually people hope to get paid after working hard, sometimes the payment equals the amount of time or hardwork put in.
Hours of practice sessions for professional athletes most times results in tropies.
When Frank lampard was at Chelsea,he was touted as one of the most hardworking footballers at the club, always being about the last to leave cobhams training center.
No doubt you have heard people say Cristiano Ronaldo is a product of hardwork.
For Frankie,he became Chelsea's highest goal scorer in the clubs history, for Ronaldo he became the highest goal scorer for Madrid, highest goal scorer for Portugal, highest at the champions league, and is inline for a record six time balloon d or award.
3.We are social beings and love associations.
Everyone have people they are more comfortable being around with.
Sports professionals are mostly more comfortable with their home fans, they enjoy the crowds cheer, which in turn spurs them on.
These are people who have accepted them and stuck together, even in bad times.
4.Trusting others for assistance as we cannot do it all alone.
An African proverbs says"a tree cannot not make a forest"
In the soccer pitch or arena, their is usually eleven players, being trusted or giving the responsibility of handling the different positions, this is because,no one player can stand alone against an opposing team.
For success to happen, each player will need to trust his team mate,by giving him passes, and hoping he does something reasonable with it,for another pass or a shot at goal.
