A Stray Bullet- Chance of Loss is Real in this Life

This post is a response to the daily prompt for 5/28/25 "A Stray Bullet".
Life confronts us with many challenges. Sometimes chance is a good thing that improves our walk in this life, and other times a stray bullet can make our journey arduous and painful.
Many times we are blessed with luck, love and fortune. The job we get that has a good salary, benefits package and stock bonus. We meet our wife and have beautiful children with her.
Chance encounters in life can be stray bullets we either dodge or face head on. Some times we get grazed and it's a flesh wound, while other times it is a serious experience requiring emergency surgery. A stray bullet comes out of nowhere and takes something from us. The best case scenario could be a dodge, but bullets move fast so we may not be so lucky.
In the movies, the hero takes a bullet to the shoulder or flank and reacts like it was a slap. That's not how it works in the real world. In real life, that's a painful and debilitating setback. We go to physical therapy and surgery after the bullet spins in our body and painfully reassigns our priorities. What we thought was important may not be so after an injury like that.
A stray bullet strikes is even when we do the "right things" in life and avoid the "bad parts of town". We can be forever changed in the blink of an eye simply walking to our car or the theater. Mabey we were in a war zone or mabey we were in a restaurant and someone was cleaning their gun in the back room while counting the money. We just never know when the next bullet will fly.
Life is a contact sport and stray bullets are a real occurrence, whether real or figurative. Make the most of each day, because our breath is a gift. Make sure to appreciate what you have and give thanks to God for it regularly.
