DNA Tests for an Immigration Visa
Source : geneticsdigest
DNA tests for immigration visas are done regularly on families who have applied for a visa to work and live in USA. The Department of Immigration and the Department of Homeland Security insist that the people who are applying to enter the country as a family prove their family relationships to one another before the visa can be granted.
For immigrants wishing to enter the country legally, be able to work and bring their families with them, the DNA tests for an immigration visa are not such an unusual request. These tests must be performed at a facility able to document the paperwork of each of the family members. The samples have to be treated in the same manner as those used in criminal court cases, or paternity cases, where the court orders the procedure. There has to be a “chain of custody voucher” kept from the time the samples are collected until they are actually tested. Even the samples in the lab require a lab attendant to sign for them. A record of who touched them and where they were at all times in the lab is also required. These custody vouchers are a very serious procedure to the criminal court and to the Department of Immigration.
Each member of the family must be present and accounted for during the testing procedure requiring the gathering of the sample. The family must list the members they will be bringing, along with the relationship that each member has to the other members, such as: father, mother, step mother, brother, sister, nephew, grandmother etc. When they arrive at the test center they have to present documents to prove their identity to the center. Photo identification will be required for all adults and will generally be required for children in the form of a passport. Adults may show a driver’s license that has a current photo or a passport. The children may need a passport and a birth certificate including their parents names in order to qualify.
Once the samples have been gathered, the facility will inform the people as to how they are able to receive their results. Most of the time, it will be the facility who will report to the government agency in charge as to what the results were. The individuals are given results only as a formality.
