Looking to sleep better? Make a to do list!

in #life7 years ago

I came across a really interesting paper yesterday by Scullin et al. (2018).  A small group (N=57) of 18-30 year olds were assigned to two groups - one wrote about tasks they had completed in the last few days and the other wrote about tasks they needed to complete the next day.  The participants in the 'to do' group fell asleep faster.

The paper suggests that people might fall asleep more quickly if they make a to do list for the next day, just before bed. It seems that the more specific the tasks are the better.

I think I need to try this out! I've been using Wanderlust, an app for  list-making, for the last week and think that making my to do list on that just before bed could work for me. Let's see!

Great post @mindfulkiwi !
I am actually doing that daily without the knowledge that people promote that and I find that it REALLY REALLY helps.

It not only helps you sleep better, but also be more relaxed, prepared, grounded. It has all kinds of benefits.

Definitely something entrepreneurs and in general successful people do, I would say.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to trying it out...

So true! keep a pen and paper handy so you don't get distracted buy your phone.

Good idea! So far I've managed to do this a few times, but I keep forgetting. I think a physical notebook might help me to remember...

I'd sleep better if I didn't stay on the laptop till bedtime! I really need to do a digital detox for at least an hour before bed. I wonder if I will ever learn...
