New York holds annual Halloween parade hours after deadly attack
New York City on Tuesday held its annual Halloween parade just hours after a deadly terror attack left at least eight people dead.
Participants said they chose to attend despite the attack in order to show their resilience.
Announcers from NY1 chose not to wear costumes out of respect for those killed and injured in the attack, they said during a lifestream of the event.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) also marched in the parade.
The event took place hours after a truck plowed into pedestrians on a bicycle path in lower Manhattan earlier Tuesday, killing at least eight people.
The suspect, identified as Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, 29, was reportedly heard "Allahu Akbar," Arabic for "God is great," as he exited his vehicle.
Police shot Saipov, who is currently in police custody and in critical condition, according to the New York Times.
