My daughter loves our five cats so I had a feeling her first word would be something cat related. Try as I might to indoctrinate her into saying "mama" it wasn't meant to be her first word. In recent weeks her baby babble has picked up and she is talking baby talk all the time. Both my husband and I are pointing to objects and saying words to try to teach her what things are.

My husband and I have had a rivalry going on where we secretly try to teach her who we are to get her to say our name first. I whisper "mama" when my husband's not around and he whispers "dada" when I'm gone. Sadly "dada" is much easier for babies to pronounce so all my work will never help me get my name said first.

I am very happy that she's learned her first words and that they were entirely unexpected! So what was her very first word?

"Meow" says little Marxrab.

That's right. Her first word is "meow" pronounced "Beow" because she can't say M's very well. My daughter randomly started singing to the following song.

When it gets to the point in the song where the kittens say "meow, meow" my daughter unexpectedly starting singing along with her "beow." She loves this song and when I play it she stops everything to go listen to it. It was so unexpected that she picked up the "meow" word that my husband and I laughed.

Now if we start singing the song she will start saying "beow" to sing along with us. It's the most adorable thing ever.

What word did she learn next?

I was on the phone with my husband and I had him on speaker phone so he could talk to little Marxrab. She loves hearing daddy on the speaker phone. I guess she has learned the routine and picked up us saying bye before we hung up. Daddy said bye to me, I said bye back, and then as I hung up the phone little rabbit goes "bye." Again, I was surprised but so happy. It's funny how you don't have to go out of your way to teach little ones words. They figure most out on their own.
